I miss living so near RMNP that I could hike every morning and evening before and after work. I don't make enough trips to the Park now, and this year's journeys are marred by rust-colored forests as pine beetles inflict the first stage of a landscape transformation I wish didn't have to happen, even though one day quaking aspen and brilliant fireweed will fill in all the gaps dead lodgepoles eventually will leave behind.
