My 300mm telephoto is the only lens I hauled up the hill to this prime viewpoint; I didn't anticipate a shorter lens might come in handy. The benefit is the distant peak looks much closer than it really is, and I got to see just how great Nikon's optics really are.
I had to create a duplicate layer in Photoshop to lighten my silhouetted husband. The color and detail in the lightened figure astound me, and I can read the logos on the camera strap, his glove, his tights and his shoes! I can even see sparkles in the snow where he's standing, and this shot was taken from a good 200 feet or more away.
