The Middle Fork of the Cimarron is the heart of the Uncompahgre Wilderness. This valley holds a special place in my heart because it's where The Lizard dropped to his knee and popped the question, heavy backpack and all, even though I'd had emergency back surgery six months earlier and wasn't sure I'd ever be able to climb any more high peaks with him.
